Weapons, Damage Types & Proficiency
Weapons and Weapon Proficiency
Weapons themselves come in all shapes and sizes, and have a few different properties. Primary Weapons can be the same Element as the Character who wields the weapon or Null Element, while their Secondary Weapon will always be Null Element. The standard format of a Weapon is as follows:
Weapon Name
Descriptive text
Type: - / Element: -
Damage Potentials -
A Character will have at least one Weapon Proficiency, either Blade, Buster or Brawl. Blade includes Sabers, Spears, Axes, Claws or any other cutting weapon. Buster includes all manner of projectiles, both energy projectiles as well as physical projectiles, including missiles. Brawl weapons include Fists, Kicks and Knuckles.
-Blade Proficiency can use a Blade Attack as a Free Action
-Buster Proficiency can use a Buster Attack as a Free Action
-Brawl Proficiency can use a Brawl Attack as a Free Action
Damage Type, Damage Potentials and Damage Type Proficiency
There are three Damage Types in ZXS. Both close range and projectile weapons fall under one of these categories. For example, a Needle Gun would be a Pierce weapon, while a more standard Buster may fall under Pierce or Blunt. A Saber would be a Slash weapon, while a Spear would likely be a Pierce weapon. Damage Types also interact with Avoidances.
-Pierce ignores Barrier
-Slash ignores Dodge
-Blunt ignores Block
Damage Potentials are an important aspect of Weapons. Damage Potentials on a Weapon specify which Damage Types the Weapon can deal. Typically, a Character has two Weapons. Their Primary Weapon will have two Damage Potentials, while their Secondary Weapon will have only one.
Characters typically have one Damage Type Proficiency, but it's not too uncommon for someone to have even two or three. Damage Type Proficiency designates what sort of Damage a character excels at dealing, and offers slight benefits.
-Pierce Proficiency can use a Pierce Attack as a Free Action
-Slash Proficiency can use a Slash Attack as a Free Action
-Blunt Proficiency can use a Blunt Attack as a Free Action
